Bridgnorth Castle

Castle 1646

The model represents a small area of the castle as witnessed during the closing phase of the siege, namely the NW corner of the inner bailey.  The outer bailey was also still being held by the Royalist garrison. We know that this part of the castle was being bombarded from Panpudding Hill.

Evicted from the town, the Royalist defenders bed down for a long siege within the still strong walls

By the time of the ECW, the castle inner bailey had long been taken over as a town over-spill area, probably a mix of low-cost housing and small-scale farming, likely pigs. The King’s House was still intact but so unserviceable as to be unfit for Charles to stay when he visited.
